Music within games

With so many games out there has to be a large amount of originality when choosing music to accompany them, some great, some not so great.

One that stands out for me (oddly as I like Rock music) is the theme to Mirrors Edge - "Still Alive", to me this song put the icing on the cake. I loved the game, got totally immersed in the storyline and was gutted when I finished the game, the song at the end made finishing the game worth while.

Another (very popular) is "again" Still Alive, this time from Portal. A very catchy and funny song to end a game.

An older favourite of mine is Dave Mirra BMX 2 on PS2, nothing better than grinding and freestyling to "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath.

So, what is your favourite game soundtrack?

My favourite game soundtrack has to be from GOW1 .. i downloaded it and i listen to it all the time!! Also the Halo 2 - unforgotten .. i think it is.. AMAZING!

For me it has to be burnout 3:takedown. So many good tunes. FIFA always does great soundtracks (apart from Duffy - Mercy on FIFA 09... BLUGH!). But for original scores halo is of course a great 1. Minecraft as well I think has a some good simple music to accompany the game. Ahhhh, I could go on for ages, what have you done Craig!?

Probably the best music soundtrack ive heard is from the Halo series due to them using a Full Orchestra, which gives it such a gritty feel when playing the game..You know something huge is gonna come round the corner and smash your face in when you start to hear the thud of a drum getting louder and louder and louder!!!

i love the idea witcher 2 had with the soundtrack in the case, i wish most games would do the same.

i love epic scores as it has more effect then in films, main example the build up in mass effect, climaxing in the saren fight and shepard missing, the tension and edge of seat music was so apt.

and i totaly agree gow score is awsome iv downloaded most of it, my fave being the last missions on gow2 called heroic
