In a strange turn of events, one that was certainly not seen coming anyway, Game Stop have decided against holding Midnight releases of Assassins Creed 3. The cause for this? Fears for the safety of both their staff and customers in the wake of the incoming, and reportedly hazardous Hurricane Sandy. So far winds of up to 75mph (120km/h) were recorded. The storm is predicted to make landfall in New Jersey on Monday 29 October, somewhere between Philadelphia and New York City.
Mr Jason Schreier of Kotaku, has said that he has already seen the effects of the storm coming his way including flickering lights, alongside myriad other community members from other sites saying that they too have seen the dangers presented in the wake of the storm.
Gamestop had this to say when asked about their cancellation of the late night release:
“Our top priority is the safety of our employees and customers. In compliance with directives issued by state and local authorities, stores in the path of the storm will remain closed until it is safe to re-open and midnight openings for Assassin’s Creed III have been cancelled in the northeast. Customers should check with their local stores for details on when we will re-open.”
Although gamestop had already sent out their text messages saying that the game would be ready for pickup, it’s best that you ignore that message, and in the wise words of Mr Schreier “charge up all your portables in case the power goes out. So you don’t have to stop playing games and do something boring, like talk to people.”
...and yes. That is a slowpoke reading the news.
